Sonoran Gridshell Pavilion
The gridshell pavilion and integrated landscape is designed to revitalize the entrance of the College of Architecture at the University of Arizona. The project was executed as a design-build studio for 4th and 5th year architecture students, and spanned from the Spring 2015 - Fall 2016.
The project is driven by three forces;
1. PEDAGOGY, education, pragmatism, collaboration
2. LOCALE, the site is located along the busiest pedestrian pathway on campus; its western exposure in the hot arid climate is a deterrent and the College of Architecture suffers physical obscurity in an otherwise dynamic fine arts district.
3. GRIDSHELL, the project is principally funded by an international multi-university grant researching best practices in educational design build and mandates that the project feature a gridshell pavilion.
My involvement in the project included finalizing design details and beginning the build of the gridshell on site. In addition to growing our skills as builders, the success of the project is a result of the strength of our team, collaboration and organization.
